Country music is by far the most patriotic genre of music we have in America. Top country music singers have written, recorded, and performed numerous songs showing their love for the nation, the military, and old school American values.
Other than writing and performing riveting songs to celebrate America, many country singers have written beautiful songs honoring the US flag too.
Let’s take a look at some of the songs that pay tribute to our beloved flag:
1.American Flag on the Moon
Despite what the conspiracy theorists say, the truth is that Americans were the first to land on the Moon. It was a moment of immense pride for us andshouldbe celebrated.
Brad Paisley’s “American Flag on the Moon” is probably one of his most underrated songs. The song was included on Paisley’s hit album,Moonshine in the Trunk.
The song urges his listeners to keep their dreams alive no matter the circumstances, because “after all, there's an American flag on the Moon."
2.This Ain't No Rag, It's a Flag
After the 9/11 attacks, Americans were desperate for hope. Charlie Daniel’s song “This Ain’t No Rag, It’s a Flag” challenged anyone who dared go up against America.
Throughout the song, the band chants “USA!” as its lead singer belts passionate lyrics showing his devotion to the country and its flags.
3.Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)
Charlie Daniel’s wasn’t the only one who felt the need to pen a heartfelt anthem after 9/11; outspoken Country singer and supporter of the US military, Toby Keith, created “Courtesy of the Red, White, and Blue (The Angry American)" in response to the attack.
Keith’s made several patriotic songs throughout his career, but according to critics, this one is by far the most stirring.
4.Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly
Aaron Tippin also created “Where the Stars and Stripes and the Eagle Fly” after 9/11. His song was directed at hard-working, blue-collar Americans as he played tribute to the nation’s greatest icons.
The song hit No. 2 on Country music charts.
5.Ragged Old Flag
Johnny Cash’s poem, “Ragged Old Flag,” is the epitome of patriotism. The poem was originally a spoken word piece and was later used as the title track on the singer’s 47th album. It was a response to the Watergate scandal when patriotism amongst Americans was diminishing after the Vietnam War.
In 2017, the poem was used in the opening video of the Super Bowl as a response to the Colin Kaepernick controversy.
